The innovative sleep brand M line keeps Radio Veronica DJs in bed for War Child during (S)Top 520

M line, together with Radio Veronica and War Child, is raising awareness of the 520 million children growing up in conflict zones. During the (S)Top 520 Voting Week, DJs will be broadcasting live from a six-metre-wide M line box spring at Utrecht Central Station. Today, on International Sleep Day, War Child ambassador Britt Scholte will be claiming an M line bed at Beter Bed Cruquius, and M line ambassador Epke Zonderland will be calling in live.

(S)Top 520: music as a unifying force
Inspired by John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s iconic Bed-In, Radio Veronica DJs will be broadcasting live for five days from a large M line box spring in the middle of the station. To give the campaign extra impact, throughout March M line will donate €5.20 to War Child for every pillow sold at M line sleep specialists and Beter Bed. The amount symbolically refers to the 520 million children worldwide who are growing up with the consequences of war.

Ambassadors in action
Radio Veronica DJs Wouter van der Goes and Frank van ’t Hof are touring the country in the ‘Bed Mobiel’ to raise awareness for the campaign. They are visiting War Child ambassador Britt Scholte, who today, on International Sleep Day, is symbolically claiming an M line bed at the Beter Bed shop in Cruquius and calling for people on social media to nominate a song for the (S)Top 520.

M line ambassador Epke Zonderland, who has been associated with the sleep brand for over fifteen years, is also contributing. During the Radio Veronica broadcast, the Olympic champion talks about the importance of sleep for recovery, focus and performance. Drawing on his own experience with pain, he shares how good sleep and the right support play a vital role. As a father, he also knows how crucial good sleep is – something that, sadly, is not a given for children in war-torn areas.

Rest as the foundation for resilience
“Music has the power to bring people together and stir emotions,” says Robbert-Jan van de Velde, Station Director at Radio Veronica. “With the (S)Top 520, we want listeners to reflect not only on the power of music, but also on the stories of millions of children growing up in conflict zones.” According to Ernst Suur, Managing Director of War Child Netherlands, it is precisely this collaboration that is essential. “War Child can only do this work thanks to partners such as Radio Veronica and M line. By joining forces, we can deploy our resources where they are needed most: for children growing up with war.” Nadieh Cissen, Brand & Stores Manager at M line: “As a brand that sells beds, mattresses and pillows, we know how important good sleep is. That is precisely why we feel a responsibility to support this campaign. At M line, we believe that performance begins with rest and recovery, something that, sadly, is not a given for many children growing up in war-torn areas.”
